Gift of Ma'yan: The Jewish Women's Project at the JCC in Manhattan
Id no. 1999.A.306, Musical instrument, English, Hebrew
Subject(s):  Passover, Women, Ritual
This tambourine was made in 1999, for use at a feminist Passover seder. The illustration by Betsy Platkin Teutsch is of the prophetess Miriam dancing with a tambourine and surrounded by women of all ages. A quotation from Exodus 15:20, in both Hebrew and English reads, "Miriam the prophet...took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances."
