Passover Haggadah
Gift of Robert Malta
Id no. 1999.A.675, Judaica, Greek, Hebrew
Subject(s):  Passover, Ritual
This handwritten Greek Haggadah was probably a transcription made for Abraham Reuben Malta by a trained scribe in 1943. It is illustrated in pen and ink and bound with a black cover and a sewn binding. Its illustrated title page bears the date, 1 Kislev, 5700 (1939), from the original printed version, but the inside cover page is inscribed with the name of Abraham Reuben Malta, written in two variant spellings and dated 1943. Greece was invaded by German and Italian forces in April 1941 and Jews in the German area of occupation were severely persecuted, while Jews under Italian occupation suffered less brutality. The original printed version was translated into Greek by Rabbi Abraham Moshe Nicokiri.
