In 1944, Andreas (now Andrew) Sipos, his sister Vera, and their parents Ilona and Philiph were deported to the Budapest Ghetto. Andreas was wearing these pants on the day he was deported and for the entire time he was interned in the ghetto.

The family was able to stay together throughout the war and all survived the Holocaust. After the war, Philiph, Ilona, and Vera returned to Vienna while Andrew moved to the US in 1956.
