Rock was born in Sedziszow, Poland in 1923 and spent time in both Poland and Germany as a child. Her parents Hershel (Harry) and Itka (Edith) moved to Dresden after they got married, where Hershel was a clothing manufacturer. In 1938, Rock, her sister Ellen, and their parents were fortunate to escape Berlin for the United States. In America, Rock’s first name was changed to Blanche. She married Leon Blonder in May 1945 and became a US citizen in 1946.
