Created in September 1944, the British Army's Jewish Brigade fought the Nazis under a Jewish flag. It included about 5,000 soldiers--primarily Jews from Palestine. Levinsky, born in Germany, entered Palestine illegally in 1939. He served in the British Army from 1941-1946.
