This album contains photographs of Susanne (Susi) Jacoby?s experiences onboard the ship, St. Louis. The passengers on the St. Louis were primarily German Jews escaping Nazi Germany for Cuba. When the ship arrived in Cuba, the passengers discovered their visas had been invalidated. The US also refused the passengers entrance and the boat was forced to return to Germany. The passengers were finally admitted into United Kingdom, Belgium, France, and the Netherlands.

Jacoby and her family went France. In 1941, her sister, Kate, fled Nazi occupied France and immigrated to the US. With the aid of the Joint Distribution Committee, Kate arranged for the Jacoby and their parents to join her in the US.
