The United Social Democratic Party of Germany (VSPD) was founded in September 1922 in Nuremberg when the preexisting Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) reabsorbed the majority of the members of the Independent Social Democratic Party of Germany (USPD). About a year later, the party dropped the V from its name and became known once again as the SPD.
