This group portrait of the members of the Friends of the Bialystoker Center and Home for the Aged was taken in 1945. The group was formed in 1940 to help Holocaust survivors from Bialystok, Poland immigrate to the United States.

The Bialystoker Home for the Aged was started by the Bialystoker Landsmanschaft (a Jewish mutual-aid society which helped new immigrants adjust to life in the US). Membership in Landsmanscaften typically consisted of people from a particular town or city, in this case, Bialystok.
