Gift of Bella Blumenfeld Renard
Id no. 119.95, Document, English, Chinese
Bella Blumenfeld was vaccinated and inoculated in December 1946, probably completed in preparation for leaving Shanghai.
Blumenfeld was born in Berlin in 1924. She left Germany in September 1939 shortly after the invasion of Poland and found refuge in Shanghai. While in Shanghai, Blumenfeld worked as a nurse in the Jewish Hospital. Nearly 20,000 Jews from Germany, Austria, and Eastern Europe escaped through Shanghai because the city did not have restrictions on immigration. Blumenfeld left Shanghai in March 1947 and eventually moved to Canada.
