The students hold a sign with the Hebrew "Safah Berura" (Clear Language). Israel Hecht is in the first row, right of the sign.

Most of the people in this photograph were killed during the Holocaust. Hecht, (b. 1929), escaped the ghetto with his mother and went into hiding in May 1943. In the summer of 1944 they were liberated by the Russians. Hecht and his mother immigrated to the US July 1948. His father and two brothers were murdered in the Holocaust.
