Hans Levi in a Catholic orphanage in Milan
Gift of Margie Nitzan
Id no. 2006.91, Photograph
Hans Levi and his sister, Hannelore, were hidden in the orphanage during the Holocaust. To disguise his Jewish identity, Levi was given the name Giovanni Bianchi and was baptized. This image was likely taken shortly before Levi and Hannelore moved to Switzerland to join their mother, who fled there in 1943.
