Injection card of Gertrude Hojtas
Gift of Milton and Gita Kaufman and Howard and Sue Pinsky
Id no. 1853.91, Document, German
Subject(s):  Typhus, Health
This card indicates that Gertrude Hojtas received injections against typhus in February 1944 and on March 1, 1945, while she was interned in the Terezin ghetto.

Gertrude Hojtas and her husband Emil had two children, Gita (b. 1932) and Zuzana (b. 1935). They lived in Prague, Czechoslovakia. Emil emigrated before Germany invaded in 1939, but he was unable to take the rest of the family with him.

Gertrude, Gita, and Zuzana were deported to Terezin in 1942. Despite the harsh conditions there, they survived and were reunited with Emil in Czechoslovakia. The family immigrated to the US in 1948.
