The 42nd infantry "Rainbow" division of the US army held a Passover seder in a former Nazi party meeting hall at the initiative of the chaplain, with matzoh supplied by the Jewish Welfare Board. The Haggadah was not ready in time for the seder, and was given after the event as a souvenir. The chaplain described the Haggadah as "undoubtedly the first Hebrew book to be published in Germany since the advent of Hitler." A few weeks after the seder the 42nd division was one of the units to liberate the Dachau concentration camp.
