This wedding photograph from Kastoria, Greece c. 1930 captures the groom and the bride, Matilda Elias, with the bride?s sisters, Victoria and Regina Elias (on the far left), the bride?s mother, Lea Elias (seated, left), and (probably) the groom?s mother (seated, right), with several other guests or relatives. Matilda, Victoria and Regina were killed in the Holocaust. This picture survives because it was sent to Sophie Elias Alexander, another daughter of the Elias family, after she had immigrated to the United States. Sophie came to the United States in 1911, at age 15.
