Catalogue for “Degenerate Art” Exhibition
Gift of Eric Chaim Kline
Id no. 1.98, Booklet, Pamphlet, Leaflet, German
The Nazis condemned many forms of modern art and music as degenerate and contrary to the “Aryan” ideal. This catalogue was the guide to a 1937 Nazi exhibit, “Entartete Kunst,” or “Degenerate Art”. The exhibition featured 650 works of modern art which were deemed unacceptable and banned by the Nazis.

Two million people in Munich saw this show which consisted of art work from 32 German museums. Afterwards, the exhibit traveled for three years to other cities in Germany and Austria. On the cover of the catalogue is a black and white photograph of a sculpture by the artist Rudolf Haizmann.
