Leaders of the Piotrkow Trybunalski Relief Association pose for a formal portrait at the Purim Ball in 1968. Left to right: Paul Nash, Abraham Koslovsky, Ben James, Joseph Steinberg, Sam Weltman, unidentified. In addition to being a social event, the Purim Ball was usually a fundraiser for a charity. The landsmanschaft organization [benevolent society] was founded at the end of the 19th century in NY, serving the needs of new immigrants. In the 1960's, when Holocaust survivors no longer needed its assistance, the organization focused its energies on relief and assistance to the needy in Israel.
