Subject(s):
This November 3, 1941 Lodz Ghetto announcement in German and Yiddish instructed ghetto residents to use less electricity.
The text translates in part: In order to save electricity, the use of cooking appliances is prohibited. Only 15-watt light bulbs may be used. Violators will have their current cut off."
In each ghetto, Nazis appointed a Jewish Council (Judenrat) to distribute rations, issue decrees, allocate apartments and meet German demands for workders. In matters of broader ghetto policy, the Judenrat had no power.
