This laminated card was issued on August 25, 1944, to Murray Bittman. His military rank of Tech 4 and his Army serial number are displayed on the card.

As a medic, Bittman did not carry a weapon, and he received this certificate of identity issued to military and civilian protected personnel. A notice on the card indicates that the bearer of the card is engaged in medical or chaplain duties and is entitled to protection from the enemies of the USA as per the Geneva Convention of 1929.

Murray Bittman was born in 1923, in New York City. He enlisted in the US Army in October 1942 and was assigned to the 448th Medical Collecting Company of the Army Medical Corps. He landed at Omaha Beach and saw military action at Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge.
