This photograph shows seven men who were members of the Judenrat (Jewish Council) in the Kozienice ghetto. They are wearing arm bands with Stars of David on them. Jews in Nazi occupied territories were forced to wear stars to physically identify themselves as Jewish.
The Kozienice ghetto in Poland was established by the Nazis in the fall of 1940. Most of its inhabitants were deported to Treblinka in September of 1942.
