Gift of Zenek Podolsky
Id no. 304.94, Photograph, Polish
An inscription in Polish on the back translates: ?To the memory of the ten who were murdered in Wielun.? The Nazis executed ten people in the winter of 1942 in the square between Rozana and Palestrancka Streets. Zenek Podolsky (b. Wielun, 1920), was forced to witness the hanging along with the rest of the residents of the ghetto. Podolsky retrieved this photo, which he believes was taken by Nazis, when he returned to Wielun at the end of the war. The Wielun ghetto was created in the spring of 1941 and liquidated in August 1942.
