This photograph of Ayreh Steinberger (1859-1942) was taken in the 1930?s. He was well known in Budapest, Hungary as a kosher meat slaughterer, as well as a teacher, cantor, trade union leader and a man of great piety. In the 1920?s, at the age of 65, Ayreh Steinberger devoted himself to the arts, creating works for his family as well as drafting ritual documents for the local Jewish community.
