Sophie?s father, Heinrich, was imprisoned in the Dachau Concentration Camp during Kristallncaht, in 1938 but was released after her mother, Adele, collected documentation that provided he had served in the military during World War I as a road roller. After Heinrich?s release, the family immigrated to the US in 1939.
