Inmates of the Terezin Ghetto built a rail connection to nearby Bohusovice, in the artist's ironic words, "to reach the final freedom via Auschwitz even faster."
Czech artist Leo Haas was deported to Terezin in 1942, where he secretly created hundreds of sketches. After the war, he produced more complex works based on his earlier art and Ghetto experiences.
